The Country Beyond the Garden Gate
Eleven Reasons
to Leave
the Garden
Experiences
Carefully arranged. Thoughtfully timed.
Horton Plains & World's End
One of Asia's most remarkable highland plateaus. A 9.5 km circuit through cloud forest leads to an 880-metre escarpment. Baker's Falls is visited en route. The mist arrives before noon — early departure is essential.
Single Tree Hill
The finest vantage point above Nuwara Eliya, at 6,890 feet above sea level. The Haggala Mountains, the Pidurutalagala range, and Lake Gregory unfold below. Sunrise departures are particularly recommended.
Pedro Tea Estate
A working tea factory established in 1885, located just 3.5 km from the hotel. Guided factory tours. Tea plucking in the fields. A tasting from the estate terrace. Lovers Leap waterfall nearby.
Nuwara Eliya Golf Club
Founded in 1889. One of Asia's oldest and most distinguished courses, directly opposite the hotel. Eighteen holes through jungle and forest. Clubs, caddies, and tee times arranged by our concierge.
Sita Amman Temple & the Ramayana Trail
The world's only temple dedicated to Sita, set within the sacred landscape of Seetha Eliya. Natural stone figures of Rama, Lakshman, and Sita. A site of profound spiritual significance.
The Royal Turf Club & April Races
During April, five prestigious race meets at the Royal Turf Club — the social and sporting highlight of the Nuwara Eliya season. The Governor's Cup is the most distinguished event.
Horse Riding
Unhurried rides through the highland lanes on well trained mounts, led by experienced handlers. Suitable for all levels. Arranged through the hotel concierge.
Lovers Leap & Glen Falls
Two of Nuwara Eliya's most photographed waterfalls, both accessible on foot. Glen Falls can be seen from the hotel grounds. A quiet walk requiring no particular exertion.
Helicopter Tour
The hill country from the air is an entirely different proposition. A private helicopter tour from the Race Course. Approximately 30 minutes. Advance arrangement essential.
Lake Gregory
Constructed in 1874, Lake Gregory sits 2 km from the hotel. Sri Lanka's highest standing body of water, framed by misty mountains and tea-covered hillsides.
Ambewela Farm & Little New Zealand
Twenty kilometres away, one of Sri Lanka's most unexpected landscapes. Over 600 hectares of sweeping green pasture at altitude — the resemblance to New Zealand is striking and quite deliberate.
